The Pike Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library, located at 6525 Zionsville Road, will reopen to the public on Saturday, March 29, unveiling exciting upgrades tailored to the community’s needs.

A grand reopening celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and live entertainment for all ages. Entertainment includes music by Mr. Daniel, a Silly Safaris animal show, a children's fishing program with Go Fishin’ with Clint, and face painting and balloon twisting by "Cinamon the Clown." Additional parking will be available at the adjacent Pike High School parking lot.

Closed for renovations since December 10, 2023, the updated Pike Branch boasts several new features, including:

In addition, the Pike Branch will be seeking LEEDv4 Silver Certification for energy and resource conservation.

“We’ve created a welcoming new space that preserves beloved elements from the original branch, like the cherished fish tank that remains a favorite among children,” said Gregory Hill, CEO of The Indianapolis Public Library. “This branch is designed to support early childhood literacy, foster learning and belonging, and champion workforce development through digital equity and essential resources. Whether you’re an individual, nonprofit, or small business, we’re here to help you thrive. I’m excited for the community to experience the space and connect with our dedicated staff.”

Michael Jenkins will step into the role of branch manager. With more than 13 years of library experience, he is eager to serve the Pike community in Indianapolis.

“The Pike Township community is made richer by its cultural, ethnic, and economic diversity, and our location next to Pike High School presents a wonderful opportunity to serve students and families,” said Jenkins. “I’m excited to be part of this community and look forward to building relationships that foster lifelong learning and connection.”

The renovation was guided by community input collected during a series of meetings and surveys in early 2023, wherein the Pike community was invited to solicit ideas for the renovation’s design and to share local community needs. The meetings were led by architects and designers from Luminaut and Four Point Design and representatives from the Library.

The project budget of $2,275,000 was funded by bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-County Council, with no increase to the Library’s current debt service tax rate.
