Indianapolis Public Library Seeks Community Input for Pike Branch Renovation Project

Northwest side residents are invited to offer suggestions for the renovation of the Pike Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library via a series of interactive meetings, offered both in-person and remotely, taking place on March 28 and May 23 from 7-8 p.m.

In addition to the meetings, a survey allowing patrons to share how they typically use Library services and what they would like to see in the renovated Library is currently available both online and at the Pike Branch. Patron responses to the surveys will be accepted until the end of March.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone who uses this branch has numerous opportunities to share their ideas for the renovation project,” said Christopher Hogsett, branch manager for Pike. “We invite the community to attend one or all of the meetings.”

The meetings will be led by architects and designers from Luminaut and Four Point Design, as well as representatives from The Library. Patrons who attend can offer ideas for the renovation’s design and share local community needs.

The branch opened in 1967 as the Westlane Branch in the Westlane Shopping Center on North Michigan Road. In 1974, The Library purchased 2.76 acres on Zionsville Road from MSD Pike Township for construction of the current 13,000-square-foot Pike Branch that opened in 1986. This renovation, which will begin in November, will be the first major renovation since the branch was remodeled and expanded to 20,000 square feet in 1999.

The project budget of $2,275,000 will be funded by bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-County Council that are assessed without an increase in IndyPL’s current debt service tax rate.
