The Indianapolis Public Library and WFYI Public Media are excited to celebrate Día del Niño at Be My Neighbor Day on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Library.
Inspired by one of public television's most beloved programs, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Be My Neighbor Day invites families to come together and explore ways to be caring to our neighbors and our community. Dia del Niño, a day dedicated to children, families, and literacy, offers an ideal opportunity to bring our community together to celebrate kindness and learning. Children and caregivers can experience activities that encourage literacy through reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing together.
Activities include an opportunity for children to meet Daniel Tiger, a concert with 123 Andrés, animal meet and greets, storytimes in English and Spanish, games, art, and free books and giveaways for every child.
"WFYI and The Library host this day to celebrate the act of being neighborly, ,” said WFYI Vice President of Community Engagement Gail Thomas Strong. “We are delighted to partner with the library to provide a fun opportunity for families to connect, focusing on lifelong learning and the diverse ways we can all contribute to our communities as compassionate, kind neighbors."
Guests are encouraged to bring new lip balm to donate to children at Riley Children’s Hospital. A special sensory-friendly experience is offered from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with WFYI for another year to celebrate learning and community building,” said Shael Weidenbach, area resource manager of youth services at The Library. “Día del Niño provides an opportunity for us to promote literacy and honor home languages and culture."
This event is made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. This event is in partnership with WFYI and is supported by PNC Grow Up Great and Fred Rogers Productions. The event is free and open to the public.
