The Indianapolis Public Library has partnered with Enlace Academy, a K-8 charter school located in the heart of Indy’s International Marketplace, to provide free library cards to its students. This effort is part of The Indianapolis Public Library’s eResource Card campaign, an initiative aimed at equipping all public school students in Marion County with access to vital library resources.

Enlace Academy serves a total of 685 students, and 442 of those students previously lacked library cards. Through this partnership, all Enlace students now have access to the Library’s wealth of resources. The eResource Card grants students the ability to borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks, stream music and videos, and access over 80 research databases. Additionally, it offers limited borrowing privileges for physical materials. Students can upgrade to a full library card by visiting any Indianapolis Public Library branch with a parent or guardian.

“This brings us one step closer to our goal of providing a gateway to lifelong learning for every student in Marion County,” said Cordia Watkins, circulation manager at The Indianapolis Public Library. “As we continue to grow our World Languages Collection, it is an honor to support a school where more than 100 languages are spoken. We are proud to help equip the next generation with the knowledge and tools to succeed.”

Sarah Marot, a reading interventionist at the school, said that 87% of students at the school speak a home language other than English. She regularly incorporates library resources into her work.

“I use the TumbleBooks app weekly for afterschool tutoring sessions,” Marot said. “We read stories in English and explore titles in LOTE4Kids, particularly in Spanish and Haitian Creole, which are primary languages for many of our students. Getting library cards removes barriers and provides access to free, high-quality literature and digital resources. Getting our kids library cards is the most amazing thing ever.”
